Advanced Endoscopy Services at MIRA Health Care
Endoscopy is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure used to examine the digestive tract, also known as the alimentary canal. It is performed using an instrument called an endoscope—a thin, flexible tube fitted with a high-definition camera and a light source. As the endoscope is gently guided through the digestive tract, it captures detailed images that are displayed in real time on a monitor, allowing the specialist to accurately examine the oesophagus, stomach and upper part of the small intestine. At MIRA Health Care, endoscopy plays a vital role in the early diagnosis and evaluation of a wide range of digestive disorders, helping ensure timely and effective treatment.
Types
Upper Endoscopy
An endoscope is inserted into the mouth and then passes through the esophagus and then the stomach in order to view the lining of all these parts, including the upper portion of the small intestine.
Colonoscopy
An endoscope is inserted into the anus to view the rectum, colon and remaining large intestine.
ERCP
Also known as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography, this type of endoscopy enables images of the pancreas and gallbladder to be taken. One can also use this procedure for placing stents and doing biopsy.
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
In this procedure, endoscopy is performed along with ultrasound to get an image of the inner digestive tract
Usage

Acute stomach ache

Chronic constipation or diarrhea

Ulcers, gastritis, or difficulty in swallowing

Digestive tract bleeding

Polyps or growths in the colon
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Endoscopy & Colonoscopy
An endoscopy examines the upper digestive tract, while a colonoscopy examines the lower digestive tract, including the colon and rectum. Both procedures are valuable tools for diagnosing digestive disorders.
Your doctor may recommend these procedures if you have symptoms such as persistent abdominal pain, acid reflux, difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, rectal bleeding, chronic diarrhoea, constipation or changes in bowel habits.
No. Most endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures are performed under sedation, making them comfortable for patients. You may experience mild bloating or discomfort afterwards, which usually resolves quickly.
Preparation depends on the procedure. For an endoscopy, fasting for several hours is usually required. For a colonoscopy, bowel preparation with a prescribed cleansing solution is necessary to ensure a clear view of the colon.
An endoscopy typically takes 15–30 minutes, while a colonoscopy usually takes 30–60 minutes. Including preparation and recovery time, patients are generally discharged on the same day.
Yes. These procedures play an important role in the early detection of oesophageal, stomach and colorectal cancers. They can also identify precancerous polyps and other abnormalities, allowing timely treatment.
